Vale – Patricia Hansen (1948 – 2022)

The Queensland hockey community lost one of its most dedicated members on the 15th December 2022.

Patricia (Tricia) Hansen’s involvement with hockey in Queensland began when she arrived in Mackay from New South Wales in 1988 and joined Camerons Hockey Club.

Tricia played at master’s level for Mackay but took on more representative duties by volunteering as a Manager for Mackay Under 18 and Masters representative teams, Queensland Country Women, Hockey Queensland Women’s Masters teams from 2003-2018 and also travelled to England, New Zealand and Spain as the Manager of Hockey Australian Women’s Masters teams.

Tricia was a former Director of the Hockey Queensland Board and served on the HQ Judiciary Committee.

Tricia was a club member for well over 35 years in Queensland, holding down positions as President, Secretary, Treasurer, and delegate to Mackay Hockey Association for approximately 30 years. During this time, Tricia also served on various committees including Competitions, Executive, Fixtures, Selectors, Umpire, Technical, Judiciary and Uniform Controller.

After retiring from managing HQ teams Tricia volunteered as a Technical Official at the 2019 and 2022 National Women’s Masters Championships.

At the Women’s Masters National Championships in 2013, Tricia was awarded “The State Service Award” from Hockey Australia Women’s Masters in recognition of “outstanding contribution to Women’s Masters Hockey in Queensland”.

She was a long-standing member of the HQ Women’s Masters Committee (2014-2017) compiling all Records and contributed to the presentation of the 30 Year Celebration of Veteran/Masters Women in Queensland held in Maryborough during the HQ Women’s Masters Championships.

In 2008 Tricia was awarded a Life Membership of Camerons Hockey Club and remained an active and loyal member until her passing.

Recognised for her long-standing commitment and dedication to the sport of hockey spanning almost four decades, Tricia was awarded Life Membership of Mackay Hockey Association in 2014 and Hockey Queensland in 2019.

Tricia will be missed not just as a friend or for her contribution to hockey but also for the integrity she displayed in all that she did.
