Hervey Bay Hockey Associaton
Hervey Bay first entered the Championships in 2005 and competed in Mackay. The team consisted of the following 13 players, along with Coach Lea Cranston and Manager Bev Taylor:
Leah Cranston | Kathy Dawes | Kathy Eustace | Heather Fraser |
Trina Friel | Cathy MacArthur | Debra Moore | Cathy Milijasevic |
Julie O’Donnell | Debbie Scholl | Chris Smalley | Julie Staples |
Gloria Weller |
Competing at this level of intensity was an exciting experience for the Hervey Bay ladies team, and has contributed to their confidence in being able to field a ladies’ masters team to compete each year at the state championships since that inaugural team.
The highlight of the Hervey Bay ladies’ master’s team was in 2014 when the event was hosted by the Maryborough Hockey Association and the team won their division 4 grand final against Toowoomba #2 team, with Carrie Taylor being named the Player of the Match.
Hervey Bay women’s master’s team has enjoyed some representative success with goalkeeper Cathy Milijasevic’s selection into the QLD 65+ team in 2022. Cathy is the only member of the original 2005 team who has attended every year. Hervey Bay’s second QLD State Masters representative was Sarah Usher when she was selected in 2023 into the QLD 40+ Gold team.
The HBHA would also like to congratulate their team goalkeeper of 20 years Cathy (Milly) who was recently (2023) awarded the Hockey QLD Volunteer of the year award.
The Hervey Bay Hockey Association is proud to be a part of the Hockey QLD women’s master’s history and will continue to be a part of this wonderful culture of ladies’ hockey where new friendships are formed and old ones renewed.
