Hockey Tweed
Tweed Border Women (now Hockey Tweed) first entered the QLD Veterans/Masters State Championships in 1986, at the State Open Championships held on the Gold Coast.
The Inaugural 1986 Tweed BorderTeam

Tweed continued to provide a team in the QLD Championships for most years until we brought in a 2nd team in the 2000, a regular 3rd team started and lately has been the team that comes and goes.
Many of the Tweed players have been selected to represent QLD in the National Championships since 1986 and some have gone on to represent Australia.

Extract from Jenny Glasby
“To raise funds towards sending Veterans to the championships in Mackay we made lamingtons in the Upstairs clubhouse with the help of Mrs Waugh and others. We made and sold 1000 dozen and by the end of the day the floor was covered in chocolate icing which was a chore in itself to clean up.
To save money on fares some of the players went by bus to Mackay and the rest would fly later, to save even more money six or seven of us went by cattle truck (in the back of the cattle truck where the cattle usually go!) to Brisbane where we met the bus. Well the look we got as we filed out of the back parked in Wickham Terrace – Brisbane hahaha
The Motel Manager was very kind and lent me his car to pick up the remainder of the team from the airport when they arrived the next evening.
Gladys King was given a special award for her long playing and administrative role in the game of hockey.”
