Four Generations For Ipswich Hockey

Out and about at the 2018 Hockey Qld Women’s Masters championships were 4 generations of family.

Heather was born and bred in Ipswich and has played for Ipswich from 1989 to 2009. She has represented Qld at the Women’s Nationals for 12 years, the last one in 2009, being part of the inaugurals 45s / 50s and 60s age division. She started playing at 15 years of age and has been actively involved in hockey ever since. In 2015-16 Heather was awarded the Ipswich City Council Sports Award for Volunteer of the year and in 2017 presented with a shirt for 400 games with Vets Hockey.

Today Heather holds the position of Records Secretary and on the Technical and Judiciary Panel for Ipswich Hockey Association. All (5) of her great-grandchildren play hockey, leaving Baby Oscar to be the sixth. Three of her grandchildren play as well.

Darnell (Heather’s daughter) has played club hockey in Ipswich, as well as represented Ipswich at the Women’s State Championships for approximately 10 years.

Heather’s youngest daughter Melanie Gibbards also plays hockey and represents Rockhampton Hockey Association at the Women’s State Championships, but unfortunately could not attend the championships in Townsville this year.

This year is Aimee’s first year in master’s for Ipswich and has played hockey from a young age.
Oscar will be playing hockey in 4 or so more years, without a doubt.
